Vision Statement

By 2030, SPA envisions a robust and globally recognized PA profession that is central to India’s healthcare system. SPA aims to advance educational standards, enhance community health, and establish international collaborations, ensuring that Indian PAs are equipped to meet both national and global healthcare needs.

Mission Statement

SPA is dedicated to advancing the Physician Assistant profession in India by fostering educational excellence, enhancing community engagement, supporting continuous professional growth, and establishing global recognition for Indian PAs through collaboration and innovation.

Strategic Pillars and Objectives

Education and Licensing

Objective: Raise educational standards and establish licensing pathways for global recognition.

  • Introduction to New Areas of Medicine: Expand the PA curriculum to include emerging fields, such as community medicine, AI in healthcare, genomics, and telemedicine.
  • Licensing Exam for International Recognition: Develop a national licensing exam by 2027 that aligns with global standards, enabling Indian PAs to work in other countries.
  • Establish PA Educational Institutions Association: Facilitate the formation of an association to unite PA institutions, standardize curriculum, and ensure the quality of PA education.
  • Standardized Curriculum and Registry: Launch standardized PA education programs with a national registry to monitor and maintain quality, targeting completion by 2025.

Community Engagement and Public Health

Objective: Enhance community health and strengthen SPA’s role in public engagement.

  • Community Medicine Training: Introduce community medicine as a core part of PA training, equipping PAs to engage in public health, preventive care, and rural healthcare delivery.
  • Community Health Programs: Establish outreach programs, health camps, and public health awareness initiatives to promote wellness and preventive healthcare.

People Development

  • Faculty Development and Support: Create a dedicated faculty association by 2026 to support educational growth, share best practices, and enhance curriculum consistency.
  • Mentorship and Career Guidance: Expand mentorship programs and career resources to support PA students and new graduates, focusing on both clinical skills and public health responsibilities.
  • Student and PA Engagement: Increase engagement through SPA’s student wing, organizing student competitions, community service opportunities, and public health initiatives.

Technology and Innovation

Objective: Embrace healthcare advancements and integrate PAs in innovative practices.

  • Training in Digital Health and Telemedicine: Provide PAs with knowledge of digital health, telemedicine, and remote care, essential for future healthcare delivery.
  • Research and Innovation Hub: Encourage PAs to engage in research on public health, emerging healthcare technology, and community health impacts, establishing SPA as a research leader by 2028.

Continued Professional Development (CPD)

Objective: Ensure lifelong learning opportunities for PAs in India.

  • National CPD Platform: Launch a centralized CPD platform offering online courses, webinars, and certification programs by 2025, covering topics like community health, emerging medical fields, and advanced clinical skills.
  • Mandatory CME Requirements: Partner with the Allied Health Council to implement CME requirements by 2026 for all licensed PAs.

Organizational Growth and Global Collaboration

Objective: Build a sustainable, influential SPA with national and global reach.

  • Headquarters in Kochi: Establish a permanent SPA headquarters in Kochi by 2025, centralizing operations and strengthening SPA’s presence in Kerala and beyond.
  • Establish Media Presence: Increase SPA’s visibility through active media engagement, including social media, news coverage, and public awareness campaigns to build awareness of the PA role and SPA’s contributions.
  • Industry and Academic Partnerships: Strengthen ties with healthcare industry leaders, academic institutions, and global PA associations to support research, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
